Barack Obama Holds Election Night Gathering In Chicago's Grant Park
CHICAGO - NOVEMBER 04: U.S. President elect Barack Obama smiles on stage during an election night gathering in Grant Park on November 4, 2008 in Obama...
I've been struggling to get this blog back off the ground, but finally decided to stop making excuses and remember that blogging is fun. I've been approaching it like a job and I'm not even making money from it... at least not yet. I've been wanting to write weekly pieces, starting with the "Monday Muse". The Monday Muse is what or whomever I find inspiring and think needs to be shared with all of you. I could think of no better time than now to begin.
My first Monday Muse may have been a bit much on the side of obvious choices, but I have never been so proud as an American to call Barack Obama my president. I used to take the privilege of voting for granted and thought that my vote was just one in millions. What difference would it really make? Tuesday, November 4th, 2008, it made a tremendous difference.
Not only is he an amazing example as a human being, he's also so sharply dressed! Ha-ha, this wouldn't be a fashion blog if I didn't say something about his expertly tailored suits, now would it? Though everyone who knows me personally knows that I despise suits, I do think they look nice on people who wear them properly. On a personal note, I'm a little excited that my president is one who I don't mind looking at! His smile is comforting.
There is, however, an issue afoot that needs to be addressed, this superiority complex that is flooding the Black community. As a multi-ethnic individual (Japanese, Hispanic, Black and Cherokee for those wondering), it is shameful seeing this ignorant notion that somehow, by having a Black president, we are entitled to some kind of free ride. That could not be any further from the truth.
Remember Pholks! The Black community only comprises ten percent of the American population. Barack is in the White House because he worked tirelessly to get there. That, and 61% of his voters were White! If anything, we have to work harder than before. He has shown us that anything is possible for those of us to are willing to work for it.
To end this post on a positive note, is anyone else hotly anticipating what might be up Lady Wintour and Andrè Leon Talley's sleeves for Michelle Obama and Vogue? I mean, not many people in the world are able to get their hands on a Narciso Rodriguez dress long before it's ready for production.
